Disability Studies

Das Institut für evangelische Missiologie ermutigt die Forschung im Bereich der Disability Studies. Die missiologisch-theologische Forschung über und mit Personen mit geistigen oder körperlichen Einschränkungen hat noch nicht ernsthaft begonnen. Personen mit und ohne Einschränkungen sind aufgerufen sich um dieses gesellschaftsrelevante Thema zu bemühen.

Mit der UN-Behinderten Menschenrechtskonvention von 2009 [2006] sind alle gesellschaftlichen Gruppen ermutigt worden sich über die aktive Teilhabe, Teilnahme und Inklusion von Personen mit geistigen oder körperlichen Einschränkungen Gedanken zu machen.
Historisch sind die Disability Studies vorerst, neben anderen Disziplinen, in der Theologie angekommen. Seit den sechziger Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts haben von der University Berkeley aus theologisch Forschende wichtige Impulse gegeben. Eine Bibliographie ist unten einzusehen. 

Mit der Entwicklung von Selbsthilfe-Initiativen aus den siebziger Jahren des letzten Jahrhunderts hat sich das Motto "Nicht über Uns, ohne Uns" und etwas schlagfertiger "Jedem Krüppel seinen Knüppel" entwickelt. Letzteres Motto hat sich aus der deutschen "Krüppelbewegung" [Frankfurt 1976-1982] geformt, die sich wie auch im UK und den USA gegen Bevormundung, Heimunterbringung, Benachteiligung und Diskriminierung einsetzte. Ein deutsches Gerichtsurteil aus dem Jahr 1980, welches einem Kläger Schmerzensgeld zusprach, weil am Urlaubsort eine Familie mit einem behinderten Kind "störte", hat das Faß zum Überlaufen gebracht. 

Vor allem folgende missiologischen Fragestellungen im Rahmen der Disability Studies ergeben sich aus dem weltweiten Einsatz von Arbeitern am Reich Gottes:

  • Wie wurden Personen mit geistigen oder körperlichen Einschränkungen in die Ausbreitung des Evangeliums eingebunden? Hatten sie aufgrund ihres sozialen Status eine Bedeutung bei der Gemeindegründung, der Bibelübersetzung oder dem Aufbau lokaler Netwerke.
  • Sind Personen mit geistigen oder körperlichen Einschränkungen selbst aktiv an der Ausbreitung beteiligt gewesen oder von anderen einbezogen worden? Lebensbilder (Ethnographien), Partnerschaften zu Institutionen, die sich um diesen Personenkreis mühten oder auch Hinweise auf eine (Neu-) Orientierung einer missiologischen Strategie aufgrund lokaler Gegebenheiten wäre hier von Interesse.
  • Haben sich Personen mit geistigen oder körperlichen Einschränkungen aktiv um die Mitarbeit am Reich Gottes bemüht, und was sind ihre Erfahrungen mit der glokalen (global und lokal] Kirche? Diese reflektorische Fragestellung greift ethische Themen auf, die in der Kirche selten angesprochen werden.
  • Wie gestaltet sich die soziale Einbindung von Personen mit geistigen oder körperlichen Einschränkungen in kollektiven, auf Ehre und Scham ausgerichteten Gesellschaften? Welcher Einfluss hat hierbei die Unterteilung in sakrale und profane, auf Reinheit und Verunreinigung ausgerichtete Lebensbereiche? Wie wirkt sich dies auf die Stigmatisierung und das "Anderssein"  (Otherness) von Personen mit geistigen oder körperlichen Einschränkungen aus? 

Eine Hermeneutik der Inklusion sowie eine missiologische Historie der Disability Studies sind Ziel dieser Forschung, soll jedoch dieselbe nicht einschränken. Eingeladen sind Personen mit und ohne Einschränkungen, denn Inklusion geht uns alle an.
